About Us

At 5th Preston, we are an adventurous Group, and we like to camp, hike and spend time outdoors. From age 6 to 18, our young people are encouraged to explore and have fun both in and out of doors.

Our Group is well supported by parents, friends, leaders and adult helpers. Through hard work and fundraising we are able to purchase lots of equipment to make our outdoor trips enjoyable and safe. (See Support Us)

We are a Group proud of our past, confident of the present and looking forward to the future: Scouting started at 5th Preston (St Cuthbert’s) way back in 1912 so in 2012 we celebrated 100 years – making us the oldest group in Preston. See the ways that we are celebrated on Our Centenary page.

Leaders & Helpers

I am sure you have heard Bear Grylls (Chief Scout) talking about the need for more adult volunteers, well it’s true. The more leaders there are, the easier our lives are. All leaders and assistants are volunteers so, as such we ‘Scout’ because we love it.

There are many ways to get involved with Scouting…

  • Perhaps your child is in Beavers, Cubs or Scouts and you simply want to come along and assist short term …. you can.
  • Perhaps you have a little more time and would like to be a Section assistant, this means you can help on a more regular basis … we’d love to see you.
  • Or you might be interested in throwing yourself in as a Leader (any section). You don’t need experience, just enthusiasm and an ability to get stuck in. We can provide the training you need and help you to settle in and start the adventure (Scouting isn’t just for the young people you know)
  • Perhaps you don’t want to be involved with a section, maybe you could help our support group, planning fundraising events and helping out… many hands make light work (see the Support Us page)

NB: All roles are subject to a CRB check and volunteers must attend a Safeguarding awareness course (2 hours).

If you think that you would like to volunteer some time (no matter how much or how little), then please let us know. Please contact us and let us know you are out there, a leader will speak to you and discuss the type of role you would like to play in the Group. .. Talk soon

St Cuthbert’s Church

The Group prides itself on having a close and long-standing association with St Cuthbert’s Church, Lytham Road, Fulwood.

Our members attend Church Parade on the second Sunday of each month (except August), meeting at 10:15 am for a 10:30-11:30 service. We wear full Scout Uniform and a member of each section carries their section flag into the service.

You can find more information about the Church at stcuthbertschurch.net
